Description

I've been wanting to make a two-headed character for a long time, but between all the writing I've been doing for the Tandy Arena and my own fear that such a character wouldn't be accepted by that particular crowd, I've neglected to do so. Besides, I couldn't come up with anything concrete. I hadn't drawn a multicranial OC of my own creation since Haven, whom I trashed almost immediately after making the drawing in that link. If Dodge was to be the only surviving aboriginal of the Mutantverse, then all the old mutants had to be sacrificed. Since then, with the exception of Hannah (a displacer beast anthro I played in a Pahtfinder game), every design I'd ever had for any kind of "multi" character was shelved.

And then RoMi climbed into my brain, and refused to get out. >_>

The story begins like this: 400 years ago, a wizard who wished to enhance his powers let go of his sense of ethics and took up a habit of drinking dragon blood. He became a dragon slayer, offering up his services to terrorized towns and cities throughout the plane of Dralisca. After each kill, the wizard would collect as much blood as he could in a canteen, and he drank from the canteen on each of his journeys as though it were ordinary water.

This routine continued until the great dragon-slaying wizard was called upon to defend the town of Epistello, one of the oldest refugee settlements in Dralisca. According to the townsfolk, Epistello had been laid to siege by a two-headed gold dragon, who kept its horde in a cave a mile south of town. The wizard made his usual journey and, upon his entry to the cave, the conjoined dragons backed away and protected their treasure. "Do not kill us!" they begged. "We never meant you any harm! Why are you extinguishing our kin?" Unfortunately for the dragon sisters, the wizard did not understand their language and did as he was hired to do. He returned to Epistello with a pair of "trophies" and then went on his way.

But when the wizard drank the two-headed dragon's blood from the canteen, he felt his throat locking up, and he heard twin voices inside his mind speaking in unison. "We have heard of your deeds," they said, and this time the wizard did understand their language. "We the dragons have committed no crime of which the humans have accused us. We have spent a long time preparing this spell and waiting for you, lest the day came that you arrived in Epistello to hunt us. And now the curse is complete. You will pay for your greed, your hubris, and your utter lack of compassion for dragonkin."

At that moment, the wizard felt every mana connection he had sever, and he lost the ability to use magic. He had to retire, for he was no longer able to make a living slaying dragons, nor was there a reason for him to drink their blood.

But the curse of the two-headed dragon didn't end there. Nine months after he settled down among the commoners and found a wife, and consummated their union, he discovered to his horror that his first child had two heads and clawed nails. Years later, so did his second child, and his third. His grandchildren, too. All had two heads and clawed nails. It was an eternal reminder of the former wizard's transgressions against dragons in his quest for power.

The wizard's progeny were similarly disgraced and called freaks, so they fled to Arkaden Dividre with the help of a planeswalker. While the progeny were distrusted for a long time by the dragons of Arkaden Dividre and monitored incessantly, the tension appears to have dissipated these days. 400 years later, no dragon slayings from the family that inherited the two-headed dragon's curse have been reported.

Most members of this cursed family are conjoined twins for all intents and purposes, but there are a few exceptions to the rule, one of those exceptions being Rowena and Mikaela Husher. The apparent twins were given two names at birth, and it wasn't until "they" learned to speak that "their" parents discovered Rowena and Mikaela were actually one person. She took on the collective name "RoMi" (and will introduce herself to strangers as "RoMi"), but continued to respond to both of her original names as well, in recognition of the two "sisters" who make her up.

RoMi has found ways to turn her family's curse into a blessing. She has taken adventurer's training, and she designs fine clothes and jewelery for a living. Rarely is she given a hard time for her appearance, as any native of Arkaden will be exposed to a large number of types of sentient life forms in their lifetime.

So... there you go. New character, hope to flesh her out more when I get the chance. I slaved 9 hours over a hot Photoshop, and I still don't know if I got the shading and hunched-over pose right. =/ But it's as decent an introduction as any, I guess.

EDIT: Now in biggerer size, and with shoes and missing thumb corrected. I also texturized the building she's sitting on and added something to her faces that I think y'all might find adorable. ^-^

EDIT 2: Some things may have been changed about RoMi's physical description here in this window since you last read it.

EDIT 3: And now RoMi's physical description has been stricken from the record while I work out more kinks. You can blame the 910CMX forum for this one. >_> Now I know how the MythBusters feel when they get inundated with fanmail saying, "YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG"...
